M. Dean and Jean L. Underwood Scholarship in Architectural Engineering
The M. Dean and Jean L. Underwood Scholarship in Architectural Engineering annually awards $3,000 to four first-year undergraduate students who intend to major in architectural engineering. It is a one-time award to be used during the fall semester of the recipient’s second year.
Consideration for this scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate students who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding success and who have the potential to succeed in the architectural engineering program and profession.
Eligibility
- Must be a first-year student at University Park or a first- or second-year student at a Commonwealth Campus who intends to enter the architectural engineering program in the fall
- To receive the scholarship funds, students must be registered in the typical second-year architectural engineering courses (AE 221 and AE 202) at University Park

About the Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering
The Department of Architectural Engineering (AE) at Penn State is widely considered to offer the top AE program in the nation. The science- and career-oriented department hosts the largest AE career fair in the country and students go on to work for the top AE, construction, and engineering firms, with a job placement rate of virtually 100% at graduation. Undergraduate students compete and excel in a number of national student competitions each year and have consistently performed at the top of their specialties in the Architectural Engineering Institute Student Design Competition. AE is the leading program for building and construction-based studies in the country, offering specialty option programs in construction, lighting/electrical, mechanical (including energy), and structural systems areas. Sustainability is a key focus of the program across building design, construction, and operation. Options for study abroad are available and are coordinated within the curriculum. Top students are eligible to apply for the Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate Program (IUG) which permits students to simultaneously obtain either the bachelor of architectural engineering and master of architectural engineering degree or the bachelor of architectural engineering and master of science degree for 12 additional credits.
