College of Engineering searches for head of Department of Architectural Engineering


Penn State's College of Engineering invites nominations and applications for the position of Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering. We seek an individual who will provide innovative and energetic leadership with strong administrative skills and a commitment to higher education. The successful candidate must possess academic credentials of the highest quality and an established and widely recognized reputation in one or more sub-disciplines of the field. An earned doctorate is required, and the candidate should be either a full tenured professor or eligible for immediate tenure at the full professor rank. A demonstrated interest in working with industry is desirable, as is the interest and ability to strengthen the national and international reputation of the department.

The AE Department has 18 full-time faculty members representing four major instructional and research areas: construction, lighting/electrical, mechanical, and structures. The department is active in research and confers a full range of degrees, including the Ph.D. and M.S./M.Eng/M.A.E. at the graduate level and the 5-year ABET accredited Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (B.A.E.) at the undergraduate level. Current enrollment includes 54 graduate students, 240 B.A.E. undergraduate students, and 77 integrated B.A.E./M.A.E. undergraduate students. Several laboratories with unique facilities also operate under the AE Department including the Bioaerosols Lab, Building Envelopes and Components Research Lab, Building Structures Lab, Computer-Aided Design Lab, Immersive Construction Lab, Environmental Chamber, Illumination Lab, The Living Lab, and Intelligent Systems Lab.

It is intended to fill the position in advance of the 2017-2018 academic year.
